This site is dedicated to the teaching of the Inchgiri Sampradaya, with special focus on the teaching of my spiritual Master, Shri Ranjit Maharaj. The book “You Are He” is a collection of commentaries on his ideas and statements, one for every day of the year. A sample chapter of the book is available on the current website here.
This teaching is not for everyone, in fact very few are likely to be interested in it, and even fewer will be able to understand it in the right way. This is not because there is anything exclusive about it; no one is excluded from this knowledge by age, sex, race, caste, or any other superficial category. It is more a matter of preparation. This knowledge is radical and rare. It is most suitable for spiritual seekers or aspirants who have already become disillusioned by the limitations of conventional religion or by teachers or gurus who demand obedience or allegiance. The knowledge presented in this lineage is a form of jnana-yoga, which means it is based on illumination of the intellect. It is essential that one who studies it and who wishes to be successful be prepared to think for himself or herself, basing that process of thinking on personal, inner experience, leading to conviction.
In my opinion, insufficient warning is provided to seekers who come to this non-dual teaching, expecting to be able to study it in the same way that they take up any other system. It requires commitment and effort, and it requires the instruction of a qualified teacher.
Just to give you an idea of what this knowledge is about, here are three of the most important concepts that you will find repeated over and over in different ways:
- The world is not true (it has no existence apart from consciousness).
- I don’t exist (there is no individual person).
- Everything happens (there is no doer).
If these concepts seem too difficult or impossible for you to grasp, you should probably not take up the study of this teaching. On the other hand, if you find them intriguing and indicative of new possibilities, then by all means read on. An explanation of these three principles in simple language is available on this page.
